like your life depended on it

A new friend came to our political house party
I met him 2 other times
He is a performance artist who does urban poetry and music
We drank all the wine that Paul brought
There was enough for 50 people
About 1/10 th that many came
This new friend told us all something that night,
while 5 or 6 dejected would-be activists drank all the wine in the schoolroom and absentmindedly played with magnets while blonde redhead and erics trip played so proudly after all this time near the bottom of the cd-pile
I felt like he was talking right to me.
He said:
If youre gonna write, write like your life depended on it
If youre gonna play music, play like your life depended on it
How far removed all this is
Saying such neat and tidy things
Acting such neat and tidy ways
blablablablasafesafesafesafesafesafedead
How crust-removing, beautiful and free would I be
would I have to end this blog and start a new one
Or another one
I would have to put down my guitar chords book and play it like a mad dog on fire again
i would have to be comfortable bragging
comfortable being SoMuchMore
soloudsotallsobigsobrightsooffkiltersogreenyellowredorange
I would have to forget comfortable
Looks like I have a 2-lined New Years resolution now.
Thank you Blair for saying it and Paul for planning it and everyone for coming out that night
live and learn
